Why in the heck did I name my business something no one can say or spell? Robicheaux is my maiden name but there is a lot more behind that than just a last name.
Pronounced: Robe-eh-Show
As I was growing up I had person after person pause and then ask, “How do you spell that?”, “How did you learn to spell that when you were younger?”, “Rob…e….sho…?” It has become who I am. When I got married I moved my maiden name to my middle name because Marie as a middle name is a little too basic to go along with Smith. Can you imagine Victoria Marie Smith, I am pretty sure that would be the basic of all basic white girl names.
But a little back story, Robicheaux isn’t my blood name. When my dad was younger his stepdad adopted him and along with that came the last name of my “Grandfather”. Thankfully my Robicheaux family is more than blood, they chose to love my dad, my sister, and I(my mom also even after she remarried ). My Robicheaux family has been my family my entire life, it is who I am. No time, new last name, or distance can change that.
I wanted something unique and Victoria Smith Photography wasn’t cutting it for me when I restarted thinking of names for my business. So I stayed with what I originally used when I started years ago. Sometimes originality of your thoughts is the best…again sometimes, don’t ask what I had first thought of.
Robicheaux is who I am, even though I am a Smith now, it’s my blood. Robicheaux is my family, my pride, my story. Robicheaux Photography represents me, and the hard work my family has put in to raise and support me.
Because If you lose everything you will always have your name.
